Teaching Excellence Awards in Management Education Announced

December 22, 2005: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Faculty of Management Dean Philip Rosson is pleased to announce the awarding of the 2005 Teaching Excellence Awards in Management Education.

School of Business Administration professors Elizabeth Kelley, Gregory Hebb and Carolan McLarney join Paul Brown of the School of Public Administration and Vivian Howard from the School of Information Management as the 2005 recipients. The awards, totaling $30,000, will be made at an event to be scheduled in February 2006. Five excellent teachers will be honoured under the "Teaching Excellence Awards" program, and seven other fine teachers will also be recognized.

"Teaching excellence is one of our core values that we strive to achieve at all times," said Dean Philip Rosson. "The selection committee was given a very difficult task. All nominated candidates are excellent teachers and to select five recipients was both difficult and rewarding," said Rosson.

The Management Teaching Excellence Awards are presented annually to faculty members from the Faculty of Management’s Schools of Business Administration, Information Management, Public Administration, and Resource and Environmental Studies who, in the opinion of their students and peers, display the qualities of superior teaching, excellent understanding of the subject area, and interest in the needs of the students. Awards for teaching excellence encourage and support superior teaching and learning in the Faculty of Management. Excellent teachers provide rich and productive learning environments for graduate and undergraduate management students, inspiring them to excel in their personal, academic and professional lives.
