ALA Accreditation
The MLIS programme offered by the School of Information Management has been
accredited continuously by the American Library Association (ALA) since the graduation of the first class in 1971. Accredited programmes are monitored regularly through annual reporting processes and periodic intensive reviews. The School was last visited by an External Review Panel of the ALA Committee on Accreditation in November 2005. In February 2006, the programme was granted continued accreditation by the Committee for a full seven years. The Committee's report emphasized many of the programme's strengths relating to curriculum, teaching, research and the School's wonderful new facilities in the Kenneth C. Rowe Management Building. Of special note, the Panel recognized the high calibre and enthusiasm of the School's alumni and current MLIS students. The next intensive review is scheduled for the Fall of 2012. Accredited programmes must meet or exceed standards regarding Mission, Goals and Objectives; Curriculum; Faculty; Students; Administration and Financial Support; and Physical Resources and Facilities.
